Step by step

We have been living by this beautiful lake for 2 months now, it is just so precious and lucky that we have the chance to live in the nature. Every time, after we make a day trip to Berlin, we just feel so happy to come back here. We can also truly observe the change of our surrounding, we can see swans strolling on the lake or flying above the sky like a plane, we are happy to create this connection with the nature before it disappears.

At the moment we do not have kitchen or water supply yet in the house but we have the feel that we are actually having a pretty luxury life here with a warm and comfy shelter where we call home. We have a common shared kitchen, shower room and toilet on this land, we are actually not in the rush to have all this in the house, but hopefully we will have a kitchen by this summer. Our life now is like someone would pay more than 200euro a nights for a glamping experience in the nature but we are actually living in it.

By now, we have installed 2 very important systems in the house which is the heat exchange ventilator to decrease the humidity in the house and also a heating system that run by gas. Beside that, we also already have electric supply in the house. The house will be slowly be completed.

There is nothing perfect in life, perfection is boring.

I just can’t wait to start growing some vegetables. I have actually created compost heaps here and there to cover the open soil. I also have created a garden bed, I would like to do a small experiment of what I have learned in the past few years. I have collected horse manure, rotten wood, our veggies waste and also coffee ground from cafe to make the bed. Hopefully worms will find the cozy home very soon that I have created for them.

Heating system

We have chosen Truma Combi 4CP plus as our heating system in the house. This is a pretty known heating system for caravan use, we believe it works well in our tiny house as well, it is so small and compact and we can hide it easily under our kitchen table later on. This machine not only can heat up the house fast, it can heat up water as well. At this stage, we don’t have a plan yet for our water system, we will figure it out.

We have a gas pipe line runs from this machine under the kitchen table to our shower room and to the compartment outside of the house, where we put our gas bottles. We also have a exhaust pipe from the machine to outside, There is a control panel and a thermostat come together with the machine. There is one thing quite important that we didn’t make a good plan before all the installation is, we are placing the exhaust pipe right under our ventilator @_@ which is not an good example, but our heating doesn’t run all the time, it runs only when the thermostat sense the temperature is lower than what we set on the control panel.

We didn’t install this system by ourselves, we have contacted a distributor nearby, he has done all the installation for us.

Ventilation

Due to the problem with humidity living in a small space with 2 people, we have done some researches that we really need a ventilation with heat exchange function in our house.

Many people recommend us using Lunos because it is smaller, compact and it is pretty silent when it runs. We have been using for 2 days now, we are still observing and we need to borrow a humidity measurement tool again to check the humidity level in the house.

Basically, this device is designed for a normal house for a ticker wall, as our wall is only 15 cm thick, we need to build a small box to hole the device and also a tiny box to hold all the cables for the control panel.

For the electrical part, someone has showed me step by step how to connect, I’m happy that it works. We need a YR 6X0.8 cable, which mean there are 6 tiny cables in a cable, connect it from the ventilator to the control panel according to the given instruction from their manual. Connect the power supply cables (only blue and brown) with wire connectors (Kabel Wago) together with the cables from the adaptor (Netzteil 18W) and from the adaptor connect the red and black cables to the control panel. It is better to get advice from some one who knows about the electric installation, I was also very confused in the beginning.

Electric Connection

We are lucky to have someone here gives a help in doing the electric connection. He mainly helped us to do all the connection in the fuse box. Later we made a hole through the floor, we had to pull the main cable from the fuse box through the floor, connected with the plug under the house, fix the plug in a good position and put silicon close the gap around the cable. We tested our plug few days ago, everything worked fine. I was so happy that it worked, I had actually no idea at all in the beginning about electrical connection, I gathered information here and there, asked people who know about it, tried to figure everything out from scratch.

You can read about the wiring plan here – https://flowwiththetiny.home.blog/2019/07/06/week-4-1-wiring/

We didn’t do the wiring in a professional way but it works….
